Sir Sam’s, our guests, and COVID-19
March 13, 2020
For 54 years, Sir Sam’s Ski / Ride has encouraged families and friends to make, and share, winter memories here with us in the Haliburton Highlands. While “social spacing” has certainly never been part of our vernacular, we do find ourselves at a dynamic and important time, and wanted to be forward in discussing COVID-19 with our guests.
At this time, we in Ontario have been fortunate to have had the time and opportunity to be proactive, and as such, the COVID-19 risk remains low in our area, nor are there are any presumed or confirmed cases.
Here at Sir Sam’s, we have stepped up our cleaning regimen using appropriate disinfectants in bathrooms, kitchens, handles, and other frequently encountered surfaces; posting and maintaining cleaning schedules in plain view; and closely monitoring updates from relevant public health services; and updating our guests as the situation evolves. We have discussed with our staff the responsibility we all share in following these procedures vigilantly.
We are likewise requesting that all guests take an equally active role in maintaining the safety of our venue for guests and staff alike. Most importantly, if you are experiencing respiratory problems, have a fever or flu-like symptoms, or have recently traveled to an area with a known outbreak, we are requesting that you postpone your visit to Sir Sam’s. For those who do visit, please practice good hand hygiene by washing with soap or alcohol-based hand sanitizers with minimum 60% alcohol, and cough or sneeze into tissues or flexed elbows.
We will continue to assess and adapt to the situation as it develops. Downhill snowsports benefits from a natural tendency towards social distancing, and we are working diligently to mitigate the risks in our operation where it is less so. Our mission to be your winter home for family memories continues undaunted, however, the safety and well-being of our guests, our friends, our family, will always come first.
