March Break starts fast out of the gate as FIS Ski Cross comes to Sir Sam’s Ski / Ride

March 11 + 12, 2017

This weekend, Sir Sam’s and Fenninger Racing will welcome the FIS (Fédération Internationale de Ski/International Ski Federation) Ski Cross Race to the Haliburton Highlands. This fast-paced, action-packed competition pits four skiers racing head-to-head on a track with jumps, rollers and a variety of exciting features and challenges!

Athletes from the National Development Ski Cross Team will be racing with other skiers coming from locations as far away as Japan. The fast pace and high skill level of the racers makes this an ideal event for spectators.

Racers attending will be travelling from across Canada, Japan, USA  and possibly other areas of the world as well. The Canadian Development Team and some National Team athletes will also be competing.

In addition, there will be a second race open to U14, U16 and U18/open athletes. These racers will get to train with National Team athletes, which offers a huge opportunity to learn and gain new skills.

“Attracting a race of this caliber is exactly what we had in mind when we modified our Ski and Boardercross track earlier this year,” stated Chris Bishop, Sir Sam’s Ski and Ride. “There is great value to our business, our tourism region and even the province in bringing a race of this size. We are anticipating a great crowd this weekend and we hope that it helps to bring some attention to what our region has to offer to visitors.”
