Heading to snow school?

Whether you’re a beginner just learning the ropes, an intermediate keen to build on the basics, or have years of experience under your belt, one of the best investments you can make as a skier or snowboarder is professional instruction. Our snow school offers programs for 3 years of age and up through camps, multi-week programs, private lessons, and Discover packages. All of which are designed to accelerate your abilities and confidence, ensuring your time on the slopes is enjoyable and safe. And, with the season set to open in just over a month’s time, now is the perfect time to start thinking about how you, or members of your family, can make that happen.

It’s also the ideal time to walk guests new and old through Snow School procedures for the upcoming season. “Time on the slopes is a great outdoor activity for the current situation in Ontario,” says Snow School Director Mike Zapfe “and it’s important delivery of our camps, programs and lessons doesn’t compromise that for our guests, or our instructors. We’ve made some changes to Snow School operations to ensure everyone’s well-being, but I think a number of these will also make for a better experience for our participants.” Important changes to note, particularly for returning guests, include:

Plan ahead…

All Camps, Programs, Private Lessons, and Discover packages must be booked in advance to ensure availability of instructors

All Holiday Camp and Program registrations must start via the online form on our Snow School page.

For those booking Private Lessons and Discover Packages, please call the Snow School at 705-754-2298 or email snowschool@sirsams.com to schedule.

Lift tickets must now be purchased online, and will no longer be sold through the Snow School desk.

On the hill…

Please have only one parent or guardian accompany the youth participants to their drop-off or pick-up. Parents/guardians must wear mask while doing so.

Please ensure participants are dressed appropriately for the weather of the day. Chalet restrictions may mean a warming space is unavailable.

Instructors and participants are to wear face coverings for the duration of the lesson.

Lessons will use the carpet lift whenever possible to avoid the close proximity of the chairlift.

Merry Mite participants must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the lesson to assist will falls, equipment adjustments, etc. For 7-week program participants, accompanying adults will be provided with a complementary lift ticket valid for the duration of the lesson.

Please have only one parent or guardian accompany the youth participants to their drop-off or pick-up. Parents/guardians must wear mask while doing so.

To minimize gathering sizes, Private Lessons will begin in 15 minute intervals.

Our Snow School page has been updated with all the dates and rates for the 2020/21 season, including our new Holiday Camp and 7-Week Program registration. This quick 3-part form helps us gather important information about your young shredders, which we’ll then follow up on for confirmation and payment. “The online advance registration process is an important tool for managing guests and staff in and around the chalet,” Snow School coordinator Teri Lindsay explains, adding “but it’s also a change that I think guests will really appreciate for how it simplifies and streamlines the booking process, rewarding them with more time on the hill, and less spent in the chalet making arrangements the day of.”

The last word goes back to Mike Zapfe, “It doesn’t matter where you ski or board, how long you’ve been at it, and whether you do it for the rush or to relax — a little instruction can go a long way to making sure you get the most out of the sport and your day. I’m excited that we’ll be able to continue providing that for people this year!”
