For over 17 years, Sir Sam’s Ski & Ride has been home to the only permanent ski and snowboard cross track in Ontario. In that time, the course has changed and adapted to meet the changing needs of the sport, events, race teams and coaches. For the 2017 season, the course undergoes the most dramatic transformation yet.
Throughout the planning and building process, the Bishop family and their team have kept a singular objective top-of-mind. Deliver an experience that is competitive and challenging for friendly or organized racing, while being comfortable and accessible for beginners to use. Outside of scheduled races, the cross track continues to be open to all skiers and riders every day that Sir Sam’s is open.
Highlights of the new course include:
These improvements continue to cement Sir Sam’s status as the preferred SX/SBX training facility in Ontario. With most of the 6 Ontario races being held on temporary courses, opportunity for dedicated practice is limited. With it’s permanent track, Sir Sam’s welcomes racers to train at any time throughout the season — whether it’s to work on skill development or to train specifically for one of the increasing number of races being held at Sir Sam’s, including two Alpine Ontario events scheduled for 2017.
With the track’s growing popularity as a training ground for many SX/SBX riders, Sir Sam’s is proud to partner with the professionally-trained team at Fenninger Racing to offer a racing program for experienced racers as well as those looking to learn. In fact, the Fenninger Team are available to assist racers of all experience levels each Friday and Saturday afternoon.
As ski and snowboard cross is often a family affair, Sir Sam’s is a welcoming place for families of skiers and non-skiers alike. Our chalet is the perfect place to enjoy a beverage or meal by one of our five fireplaces or on our large sundeck overlooking the finish line of the cross track.
The new cross track is located to the left of the Covered Lift. Also located in this area are the alpine race track and the terrain park. As these features continue to develop in future years, the possibility exists to expand on the training and racing program at Sir Sam’s.
We look forward to continuing to provide you with updates and posts regarding the racing program and the events that are being held on the bigger, better cross track. Stay tuned and follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Happy racing!
