An important Thanksgiving weekend update
The hallmarks of fall have started to appear in the Haliburton Highlands — the foliage has started to turn, the geese are seen heading south, and the morning air is crisp and cool. All signs that winter is on it’s way.
While the pandemic remains a constantly changing situation, we’re buoyed by recent news from the Ontario Snow Resorts Association (OSRA). OSRA has been working with government and heath authorities to safely see the 2020/21 sliding season open, and the most recent decision from the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture is that it can, with the modifications we’ve come to expect for most public spaces, proceed. Woot!
While that’s great news for the season, regrettably, one milestone event will not be part of our autumn traditions this year. Given the current state of the pandemic and the associated limits on gatherings, we’ve decided the safest option for all is to forgo our Annual Thanksgiving Open House.
Our usual green season activities will be open for the weekend — our final weekend of the green season — so you can still make that ride or hike to the hilltop and see the fall colour in all its glory. The chalet will be open from 11-4 Saturday and 11-2 Sunday for bike rentals, service and repair, grab ’n’ go snacks and washroom access.
If the Open House was your occasion to make season pass and ticket book purchases, or to discuss the available options for lessons and ski school programs, we will have staff will be on hand to assist with these. While we are excited to see all of again, we would ask you to consider connecting by phone or email to handle these, thereby avoiding large numbers of people on the property. For all guests who do stop by on the weekend, be aware that all recommended COVID protocols regarding masks, social distancing, and indoor/outdoor capacity limits will be in effect.
While we can’t gather for our Open House, we can still come together to celebrate this great autumn tradition. Post your favourite Open House memories to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter (making sure you tag us), or, for those with private accounts, send us your pics by DM and we’ll post on your behalf.
Stay safe, be well. We’re counting weeks, not months ’til ski season now!
